"Peace Officers' Memorial Day" is observed on May 15th of each year across the country with various planned events and ceremonies. Flags are flown at half staff.
In Washington, D.C., the memorial day has evolved into an entire week of activity, and is known as National Police Week. Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on the nation's capital to participate, and to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
We remember those police officers and troopers who were shot by Chesimard and/ or members of the East Coast contingent of the Black Liberation Army in 1971-73.
